We are getting lots of requests for news and I wish we had more to share. Our family is still in Port-Au-Prince and hoping to get on the first flights out. Our flight for tomorrow has been cancelled and we are now booked on a Delta flight to Atlanta on Thursday AM. We are postponing our vacation for now. The kids and I plan to travel to Kansas until a return trip can be assessed.
We are not able to travel back to Bonne Fin on a road. We have seen and heard multiple reports that the road is blocked by fallen trees and bridges have been washed away by flood waters. Rick may try to get back to the Cayes / BF area on a relief aircraft. He is in contact with several sources here in PAP.
We lost phone contact with the missionaries in Bonne Fin about 10 AM today and have not been able to make contact with them. Our last contact indicated that they are safe, but without power, internet and now phone service. They had not been able to access the extent of damage, but Kurt Plattner mentioned that it is very bad and they could see the hospital from their home now as all the trees were down.
We have heard from most of the missionaries in the Cayes area and all seem to be safe. The damage is extensive and the rain is still falling.
We are struggling with not being at the hospital and the helpless feeling of being stuck here. Satan is attacking on so many levels, but we are thankful for our safety and for being together.
On a side note, Krae and I have birthdays tomorrow and we had planned to celebrate all of our birthdays and our anniversary in Florida this year. While I know that many mean well, please refrain from sending Happy Birthday wishes tomorrow. This is a very difficult time for Haiti, for our mission, for our extended missionary family and birthday wishes seem so frivolous. Thank you for understanding and for all of your prayers. WE NEED THEM!
